The LoadDown - 12/16/2011

The holidays are sneaking up on me fast... so fast that I got distracted and completely forgot to post this on its normal schedule.  Here's what's new in the world of downloadable console gaming...
WiiWare -- An old friend returns unexpectedly, with Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math: The Lady Liberty Larceny.  It's a different style of game, with math/geometry/logic puzzles appropriate to 4th and 5th graders.  There's also a free demo version of the multiplayer creativity title, Paint Splash.

DSiWare -- Three new titles up this week.  Just SING! Christmas Vol. 3 provides more holiday karaoke songs; two of them, to be exact, so don't expect to keep the whole family entertained for hours with this one.  Elite Forces: Unit 77 is a T-rated, squad-based military tactics game, presented in an old-fashioned isometric perspective with multiplayer support.  WordJong Arcade mixes mahjong and word games, with arcade game-style powerups.

3DS eShop -- A Game Boy Color game arrives in emulated form -- Sunsoft's Blaster Master: Enemy Below, which follows in the footsteps of the NES classic Blaster Master.  There's been a decided lack of true 3D titles on the 3DS downloadable scene, but it's been a good platform for overlooked handheld titles.

XBox Live Arcade -- Two new titles.  Sonic CD is the Sega CD-specific Sonic the Hedgehog game; it's been re-released in recent years on Sonic compilations, but it's good to see this overlooked classic available as a stand-alone title.  Joe Danger: Special Edition brings this fun, cartoonish, E-rated stuntman game to the XBox 360 after its notable debut last year on the PS3.

PS3 on PSN --  One new game this week, intended for holiday season family fun: Family Feud Decades, which in a nice touch pays homage to the game show's long history by featuring sets (but not hosts) from the show's long history.

PSOne Classics -- Nothing new here this week, for the first time in a while.
